Fracture prediction based on attenuative anisotropy theory and its application to a shale gas reservoir

چکیده

Abstract Shale gas reservoirs require artificial hydraulic fracturing to achieve commercial production. Continental Jurassic shale have several thin interlayers (e.g. sandstone and carbonate), which lead pseudo-anisotropy of the seismic amplitude velocity, traditional technology for predicting anisotropic fractures has difficulty in identifying a true target. Based on theory azimuthal anisotropy equivalent medium theory, this paper, approximate formula reflection coefficient attenuating equation elastic impedance are derived. With objective function established using Bayesian group sparse inversion methods, parameters such as fluid terms fracture characteristics obtained by solving matrix, highly accurate prediction 3D density is obtained. The validity method confirmed via test single well application actual data reservoir.

Mechanical properties of shale-gas reservoir rocks — Part 1: Static and dynamic elastic properties and anisotropy

Understanding the controls on the elastic properties of reservoir rocks is crucial for exploration and successful production from hydrocarbon reservoirs. We studied the static and dynamic elastic properties of shale gas reservoir rocks from Barnett, Haynesville, Eagle Ford, and Fort St. John shales through laboratory experiments. The elastic properties of these rocks vary significantly between ...

SPE-175021-MS Stochastic Modeling of a Fracture Network in a Hydraulically Fractured Shale-Gas Reservoir

This study introduces a novel approach to model the hydraulic fractures in a shale reservoir using a common stochastic method called “random-walk.” The goal of this work is to capture part of the “complexity” of a fracture/fracture network that has been generated by a hydraulic fracturing treatment and to attempt to characterize this fracture network using reservoir performance signatures. The ...

Intelligent fracture creation for shale gas development

Shale gas represents a major fraction of the proven reserves of natural gas in the United States and a collection of other countries. Higher gas prices and the need for cleaner fuels provides motivation for commercializing shale gas deposits even though the cost is substantially higher than traditional gas deposits. Recent advances in horizontal drilling and multistage hydraulic fracturing, whi...
